Jacob's Story

At 20 weeks, an ultrasound revealed that Melissa Rodriguez's unborn baby had a serious heart condition and would need a series of surgeries within his first months of life. About 1 in 100,000 children are born with this type of heart malfunction. Jacob was born with only a single-chambered heart, and it was doing the work of the missing chambers. Without the Children's Hospital of Georgia's intervention, Jacob would have died as a newborn. Now, he is a healthy, thriving 8-year-old little boy who loves to run and play!
