Kim Basso, MSN, RN
Director of Pediatric Patient Care Services
Kimberly D. Basso, MSN, RN joined MCG Health Inc. in 1989 as a staff nurse in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. She has held progressively responsible positions in the organization including Pediatric Transport Coordinator, Assistant Nurse Manager – PICU, Nurse Manager – PICU. In her more than 25 years of pediatric experience with the organization she has temporarily led many departments including the Pediatric Cardiac Catheterization Lab and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. She has also assisted in developing many services for the children’s hospital, including the Pediatric Sedation Service, Pediatric Transport Team, Pediatric ECMO Team, Pediatric Code Team, and Pediatric Vascular Access Team.
She is currently the Director of Pediatric Patient Care Services for the Children’s Hospital of Georgia, co-managing the inpatient Pediatric and Women’s Health operations with Jim Mumford.
Before joining Georgia Regents Medical Center, Basso worked as a staff nurse in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at James Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, Indiana.
She earned a master’s degree in nursing from Walden University, and graduated from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.
She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society of Nursing and has served as past Governance Chair of the Beta Omicron Chapter. She is also a member of the Georgia Organization of Nurse Leaders and is currently serving as East Central GONL Treasurer. She holds an Affiliate Faculty Membership with the American Academy of Pediatrics, Section on Transport Medicine.
She has presented nationally on several topics, including Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and Pediatric Critical Care.
She received the MCG Reflection of Nursing Spirit and Commitment Award in 1999, Georgia Nurse’s Associations CSRA Nurse Manager of the Year award in 2005, and the “Who Moved My Cheese” award for leading by example in 2009.
