C1-C2 Articulation

This is the joint between the Atlas (C1, First cervical vertbral body) and the Axis (C2, Second cervical vertebral body). 50% of the rotation in the cervical spine takes place at this joint between the odontoid process (Dens) of C2 and the lateral masses of C1. This is part of the craniocervical junction.
