Body Contouring
Losing a large amount of weight is a major accomplishment that can improve your health and lifestyle. But it can also result in loose, heavy folds of skin that may limit your mobility and cause cosmetic and health problems.
The Georgia Regents Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Service specializes in body contouring procedures following weight loss surgery to remove excess fatty tissue and skin and improve the shape and tone of your new body. Body contouring procedures may include:
- Body lift, to correct sagging of the abdomen, buttocks, groin and outer thighs
- Breast lift
- Arm lift
- Thigh lift
- Excess skin removal
- Tummy tuck
- Liposuction
We encourage our patients to consider a body contouring operation when appropriate because the results may improve their overall self-esteem and body image. All procedures are performed by our skilled, board-certified plastic surgeons who are experts in reconstructive body contouring operations.
Body contouring operations are generally not recommended until after patients have loss significant weight and their weight has been stable for a period of time. This time will vary depending on the type of weight loss operation. In our weight loss program, we recommend body contouring operations when certain conditions are met, including:
- Performed no earlier than 18-24 months after weight loss surgery
- Adequate excess weight loss (BMI 25-30)
- Maintain stable weight for at least 4-6 months
Our plastic surgeons work in conjunction with the Georgia Regents Weight Loss Center surgeons and nutritionists to help determine the best time for these procedures to be done, so you can have the best possible cosmetic results.
Once you meet the above criteria for body contouring surgery, we will arrange a consultation with our plastic surgery team to discuss your needs.
Insurance for Body Contouring Surgery
Insurance plans generally do not pay for this surgery because it is considered cosmetic. Your plastic surgeon will work with you and your insurance plan to determine what body contouring operations may or may not be covered by your insurance plan. If your body contouring operation is not covered by insurance, your plastic surgeon will discuss other payment options with you
