Helping you know your risk
We are the only team in the CSRA providing comprehensive cancer genetic counseling services. The primary goal of cancer genetic counseling is to identify individuals and families at increased risk of cancer for the purpose of promoting awareness, early detection and cancer prevention.
The GRU Cancer Center has a board certified genetic counselor and a board certified clinical geneticist. Genetic counselors can help you find out if there is an inherited tendency to develop cancer in your family by doing a "cancer genetic risk assessment".
As part of a cancer genetic counseling session, the genetic counselor will provide you with information about what your family can do to try to find cancer at its earliest, most treatable stage. If you have an inherited tendency to develop cancer, you may need to start screening at an earlier age. Genetic counselors will also discuss ways you or your family can potentially lower your chance of getting cancer.
