Comprehensive Lymphedema Therapy at Georgia Regents Medical Center

Georgia Regents Medical Center offers comprehensive lymphedema therapy through Rehabilitation Services, and a lymphedema treatment room is included in the plans for the new Cancer Center.

Georgia Regents Medical Center has the only therapist in the CSRA nationally certified through the Lymphology Association of North America and is the only facility using state-of-the-art bioimpedance technology for monitoring lymphedema in breast cancer survivors.

The treatment program consists of four components:

  • Skin care to reduce infections
  • Manual lymphatic drainage, a light massage that helps move fluid out of the swollen extremity
  • Compression wraps and garments
  • Therapeutic exercise to facilitate fluid movement and address any orthopaedic issues a patient may have (such as decreased shoulder range of motion after a mastectomy).
