Georgia Regents Medical Center’s Vascular Access Teams
Georgia Regents Medical Center Medical center has a 13-member Adult Vascular Access Team and an 8-member Pediatric Vascular Access Team. The team members specialize in placing Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters (PICC Lines) for patients who need a long-term vascular access device.
The teams also provide technical assistance and are the “observer” for physicians placing other types of central catheters for patients who have:
- Nutritional Needs
- Special Medication needs
- Difficulties with routine intravenous access
Our Roles and Specialties
Our Vascular Access Teams also take a leading role in the daily assessment of our patients who have central lines. These assessments include:
- Maintenance of the Central Venous Lines
- Sterile dressing changes
- Daily monitoring to identify a line that is no longer needed and could be removed, reducing the risk of the patient developing a dangerous infection.
Central Line Research for the Future
Research into how to make central lines safer and better for our patients is an important part of our Vascular Access Teams’ daily work.
