Georgia Regents Medical Center’s Award Winning Rapid Response Team

The Georgia Regents Health System's award winning Rapid Response Team (RRT) is dedicated to keeping patients safe. Recognized by a Patient Care Quality and Safety Award in the Large Hospital Category, given by the Georgia Hospital Association Partnership for Health and Accountability for the improvements in patient care. This award resulted from our innovative application of proactive patient assessment and care provided by our RRT members.

To improve the response to patients developing unanticipated complications in clinical settings outside or critical care areas, our RRT members began “active rounding”, making patient rescue their priority. The team members also respond to calls from staff and family members.

Our RRT members include ICU registered nurses free of specific patient assignments and respiratory therapists, with the patient’s primary medical team providing physician coverage as needed. The Hospitalists also provide physician support 24/7.

Our RRT averages 60 calls a month, counting paged calls and patients seen proactively on rounds.

We have seen a remarkable and significant decrease in unexpected cardiac arrests in non critical care settings. We have also had a breakthrough improvement in clinical outcomes for our patients who develop unexpected complications.
