The Neuropsychology Service of the Georgia Regents Neuroscience Center of Excellence is one of the most comprehensive Neuropsychology programs in the region. A neuropsychological evaluation typically involves assessment (testing) of cognitive and sensory-motor functions using a group of standardized tests that are sensitive to the effects of brain dysfunction. This evaluation helps determine the best course of treatment, therapy and care for each patient.
Neuropsychological testing may be appropriate for patients with suspected learning disabilities, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder or dementia, patients who have experienced head trauma, stroke or a brain tumor, as well as patients with epilepsy and altered mental status of an unknown cause or other conditions. The neuropsychological assessments consist of an interview, a review of the patient’s medical history and both question-and-answer and paper-and-pencil or computerized testing of:

- Reasoning, sequencing, problem-solving and other higher level skills
- Attention and concentration
- Learning and memory
- Language
- Visual-spatial and visual-perceptual skills

The Pediatric Neuropsychology Service evaluates the neuropsychological capabilities of children and adolescents (age 2-19). The Adult Neuropsychology Service evaluates adults (age 20-65), and older adults (over age 65).
