A Range of Skull Base Surgery Options at Georgia Regents Medical Center
Georgia Regents Medical Center’s Skull Base Surgery Center offers surgical procedures for benign and malignant skull base tumors, cerebral aneurysms and diseases of the skull base—part of the body that separates the brain from facial structures—to adult and children patients in Augusta, Georgia, South Carolina and throughout the Southeast.
Our team of experienced skull base surgeons includes neurosurgeons and other surgical specialists who work together to deliver leading multidisciplinary care and surgery for skull base tumors. Skull base tumors and diseases of the skull base region can affect the brain, hearing, vision and balance if not properly treated.
Only Skull Base Surgery Center in Region
Georgia Regents Medical Center’s Skull Base Surgery Center is the only one of its kind in the Augusta, Georgia area and the first in Georgia to offer complete, minimally invasive endoscopic endonasal skull base surgery, a technology that lets surgeons go through the nose remove tumors that were once inoperable.
The endonasal surgical option is well suited to diverse patient populations, including pediatric patients, and offers improved access, superior visualization, shorter hospitalization and cost-savings with equivalent or improved outcomes.
We are the only multidisciplinary skull base tumor program in the region with fellowship-trained specialists that include neurosurgeons, ENT specialists, plastic surgeons, radiologists, radiation oncologists and neurointerventionalists. In addition, we have a state-of-the-art Neuro Critical Care Unit which handles all neurological and neurosurgical patients who are in critical care. A neurointensivist participates in the care of all neuro critical care patients to reduce the risk of any medical or surgical complications.
The Georgia Regents Medical Center Skull Base Center offers a range of surgical options, including:
- Minimally invasive endoscopic endonasal surgeries, performed through the nose with the assistance of a small, lit camera…an innovative and thorough approach with lower risks to patients
- Traditional open skull base surgeries for patients who are not candidates for minimally invasive options
- Noninvasive Gamma Knife Radiosurgery for qualifying candidates with operable or inoperable brain tumors
- Staged Therapy, which combines open or endoscopic surgery with Gamma Knife Surgery to ensure the most thorough treatment
