Critical Care
Chris M. Bland, Pharm.D., BCPS
Chris is the full-time clinical pharmacist for the intensive care unit at Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Augusta, GA. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of South Carolina in May of 2000 and was board certified in Pharmacotherapy in 2003. While dedicated to the ICU, Dr. Bland works closely with the Department of Infectious Diseases on complicated cases as well as overall stewardship issues within the medical center. Chris also is the clinical pharmacy coordinator for the inpatient clinical pharmacy staff. He provides education to internal medicine, family medicine, general surgery, and orthopedic surgery residents and staff including precepting a 2-week pharmacotherapy elective for 2nd year internal medicine residents.
He has published recently in the Annals of Pharmacotherapy, Pharmacotherapy, The International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents and the Journal of Intensive Care Medicine. Chris also has presented at several national meetings including the Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists (SIDP) and American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) annual meetings. He also provides live NAPLEX review courses for pharmacy schools nationally on many clinical topics including infectious diseases. He recently received the 2012 Ralph D. Arnold Army Pharmacy Research Award for work related to implementation of a blood culture notification program to enhance antimicrobial stewardship. He also received the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy Preceptor of the year award in 2005-06 and provides invited lectures on infectious diseases topics for the P3 pharmacy students at the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy and South Carolina College of Pharmacy as an adjunct faculty member.

Jackie Bryant, Pharm.D., BCPS
Jackie is a graduate of South Carolina College of Pharmacy (Columbia). After completing her PGY1 Pharmacy and PGY2 Critical Care Pharmacy residencies at Georgia Regents Medical Center and University of Georgia College of Pharmacy, Jackie stayed on as a member of the Georgia Regents Critical Care team with a focus in the Medicine ICU. She is serving in an ICU Float position and will also be involved in expanding critical care coverage on the evening shift. Jackie has been an active member of the Pharmacy Performance Improvement (PI) Team since her residency, served on the Medication Error Prevention Committee for 2 years, and has also been a member of the Intensive Care Unit Committee. Results of her research comparing mannitol and 23.4% hypertonic saline for the management of elevated intracranial pressure following brain injury has been presented locally and nationally in 2014 (43rd Society of Critical Care Medicine Annual Congress, Georgia Area Critical Care Pharmacist Network Annual Meeting, GRMC Stroke Center Conference). A chapter for the upcoming textbook, The Clinical Practice of Drug Information on how to prepare an effective journal club was submitted in 2013 and she is coauthor on a review of raltegravir in Annals of Pharmacotherapy (April 2012). She is an active member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM), ASHP, ACCP, and GSHP, a preceptor for University of Georgia College of Pharmacy and served as a graduate teaching assistant for UGA in 2012-2014.

Cathy Pierce, Pharm.D., FCCM
Cathy Pierce received her BS degree in Pharmacy from Auburn University School of Pharmacy in 1993 and then obtained a post-baccalaureate Pharm.D. at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 1995. After graduation, Cathy completed two years of residency, pharmacy practice and Critical care specialty residencies at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in 1997. Cathy’s first position was at Grady Health System in downtown Atlanta where she was their first clinical specialist in critical care, practicing in the Trauma Critical Care Unit. During her time at Grady, she precepted pharmacy practice residents and started the critical care specialty residency program. Upon leaving Grady, Cathy worked at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Georgia as their Clinical Coordinator and helped to expand their clinical pharmacy services. For almost 12 years, Cathy worked at Wake Forest Baptist Health System (WFBH) in Winston Salem, NC, as the Clinical Specialist for Critical Care, establishing their Critical Care Residency Program and serving as the Director of that program; as well as playing an integral role in the training of pharmacy practice residents. Her primary practice was in the MICU; she also supervised a team of 5 clinical pharmacists in the MICU. Cathy joined Georgia Regents Department of Pharmacy in 2014 where her main practice site is the medical intensive care unit
Cathy has been involved in several local, national and international professional organizations such as the Atlanta Academy of Institutional Pharmacists (AAIP), ASHP, ACCP, and SCCM during her career and has served in different capacities within those organizations. In 2011, Cathy was honored to achieve Fellow status within the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) which is a multi-disciplinary international critical care medicine society. More recently, Cathy has served on the Board of the Southeastern Residency Conference (SERC).
Cathy has published in peer-reviewed journals and has been an invited speaker at AAIP, the North Carolina Association of Pharmacists (NCAP), and SCCM. Her professional interests include quality improvement, sepsis, sedation/analgesia, end-of-life care and the management of infections in the critically ill population. Cathy is also the Residency Program Director for the PGY-2 Critical Care Pharmacy Residency program.

Jessica Szewczyk Richardson, Pharm.D., BCPS
Our Cardiothoracic ICU Critical Care specialist, Jessica, received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy in 2011. She completed her PGY1 Pharmacy Residency and PGY2 Cardiology Specialty Residency at St. Luke’s Hospital/Texas Heart Institute in the Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas. Jessica joined the Georgia Regents Medical Center pharmacy team in August 2013. Her practice focuses on provision of care for medical and surgical cardiology patients. She is a member of the American College of Cardiology (ACC), American Heart Association (AHA), ACCP, ASHP, and GSHP.

Tim Robinson, Pharm.D., BCPS
Tim is a 2007 graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy. He completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at MCG Health in conjunction with the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy and the UGA College of Pharmacy Teaching Certificate. Since 2009 his practice site has been the Trauma and Surgical Intensive Care units.

Jody Carswell Rocker, Pharm.D., BCPS
Jody received her Pharm.D. from the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy in 2003. She completed her Pharmacy Practice Residency at the Medical College of Georgia Health System in 2004 and then joined the MCG (now Georgia Regents) pharmacy staff as a Neuroscience Pharmacy Specialist, covering both Neurology and the Neurology ICU and serving as part of the Pharmacy Critical Care team. She has an appointment to the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy as a Clinical Assistant Professor. At the 2004 ACCP Annual Meeting she presented, “Cliff Notes: How Mentoring Works” with Dr. Susan Fagan. She has been published in The Annals of Pharmacotherapy (2003), Hospital Pharmacy (2006), and Stroke (2012). Her areas of clinical interest are: blood pressure and hemostatic therapies for the management of intracerebral hemorrhage patients and secondary stroke prevention strategies. Jody is an active member of ACCP, Georgia Society of Health System Pharmacists, and ASHP. She has participated in medical mission trips to Ecuador.
