Micaela Carroll, Pharm.D

Micaela joined the Georgia Regents Medical Center Pharmacy team in the summer of 2014 as an internal medicine pharmacist.  She received her Pharm.D. from Northeastern University in Boston, MA and went on to complete a PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale, FL.  During her PGY2 Residency in Internal Medicine at West Virginia University Healthcare in Morgantown, WV, she served as an APPE preceptor for Internal Medicine.  Micaela’s areas of interest include anticoagulation, pulmonary diseases, and precepting.  She presented her project on evaluating the effects of statin use on healthcare facility onset Clostridium difficile infection at the 54th Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy (ICAAC) in September 2014.

Christina E. DeRemer, Pharm.D., BCPS

Christina received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of the Sciences, Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, in Philadelphia, PA.  After graduation, she completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency (PGY1) and a Primary Care Pharmacy Specialty Residency (PGY2) at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.  She joined the pharmacy team at MCG Health (now doing business as Georgia Regents Medical Center) in August 2005.  Christina practices with the adult inpatient internal medicine/hospitalist services and in the pharmacist-managed ambulatory care anticoagulation clinic, where she precepts both pharmacy residents and students.    In 2013, she was promoted to Clinical Associate Professor of Pharmacy (without salary) at the University of Georgia (UGA) College of Pharmacy.  She serves as the Pharmacy Supervisor for the Medicine Team and as the PGY1 Residency Coordinator.

Christina has been recognized as the 2007-2008 and 2012-2013 Preceptor of the Year from the UGA, College of Pharmacy and with the 2009 Outstanding Pharmacy Practitioner Award from the Georgia Society of Health-System Pharmacists (GSHP).  In 2011, her efforts and contributions with the anticoagulation clinic were acknowledged in a highlight article featuring the clinic in MCG Health News of Excellence and she was a recipient of the 2011 MCG Health Team Work Award given to the anticoagulation clinic.  She is an active member of ACCP, ASHP, and GSHP.  Christina has published on practice innovations, adverse effects of medications, and case reports in the American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education, Journal of Clinical Psychopharmacology, American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy, Pharmacotherapy, the Southern Medical Journal and The American Journal of Medicine, and is dedicated to contributing to the literature.  She is a regular presenter at GSHP statewide conferences, and has been an invited speaker at the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting.  Dr. DeRemer was also a Guest Lecturer and presented a conference on pharmacist-managed anticoagulation services via distance learning to Hamad Medical Corporation in Doha, Qatar (main site Al-Wakra Hospital) in July 2013.  She also was a presenter at the American Society of Health-system Pharmacists National Pharmacy Preceptor Conference in Washington, D.C. in August 2013.  Professional interests include anticoagulation, resident training, and improved pharmacy involvement with hospitalized and clinic patients during transitions in care.

Tom Flynt, Pharm.D.

Tom received his B.S. in Pharmacy at the University of Georgia in 1976 and his Pharm.D. degree from Mercer University in 1982.  He completed a Psychopharmacy Residency at the William S. Hall Psychiatric Institute in Columbia, SC in 1983. Tom worked as a teaching pharmacist at the William S. Hall Psychiatric Institute in Columbia, South Carolina from 1983-1984.  He has worked for GRU since 1984, beginning as the Medicine Satellite Pharmacy Supervisor.  Tom implemented clinical pharmacy services to the Adult and Child Psychiatry units in 1986. In 2000 he became an Adult Unit Based Pharmacist Specialist where he provided clinical and distributive services to 2 medicine-nursing units and 1 psychiatric unit.  In 2011 he expanded his coverage area to include 2 surgery units.

Tom has served as Adjunct Assistant Professor of Pharmacy at UGA since 1992 and precepts the Georgia Regents Psychiatric APPE Rotation for pharmacy students.  He also precepts pharmacy residents on an elective psychiatry acute care experience.  Additionally he has been an Assistant Clinical Professor to the Department of Psychiatry at the Medical College of Georgia School of Medicine since 1989.  He was a consultant on the Schizophrenia Patient Outcomes Research Team (PORT) and the Pharmacologic Treatment Recommendation Academic Detailing Study. He currently serves on the Psychiatric Nursing Unit Quality Council and the Department of Psychiatry Quality Council.

Dwayne Pierce, Pharm.D. BCPS

Dwayne received  both his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (Cum Laude) and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy and then completed a PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at Methodist Healthcare- Memphis in 1998.  After residency he practiced in internal medicine at Grady Health System and then at Northside Hospital in Atlanta.  Dwayne then served as a Clinical Pharmacist at Moses Cone Hospital followed by becoming the Clinical Pharmacist for Nephrology/Hemodialysis at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina for nine years.  Dwayne joined the internal medicine team at Georgia Regents Medical Center in October of 2014, covering both nephrology and general medicine. During his time at Wake Forest, Dwayne earned recognition as a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist.

Dwayne has published in Clinical Therapeutics, Annals of Pharmacotherapy, Pharmacotherapy and Peritoneal Dialysis International. He is member of the National Kidney Foundation, American College of Clinical Pharmacy, and the American Society of Health Systems Pharmacy. He has served as a preceptor for students at Mercer University, University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, and Wingate Schools of Pharmacy; as well as, serving as a PGY-1 and PGY-2 resident preceptor at Northside, Moses Cone and Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

Jody Carswell Rocker, Pharm.D., BCPS

Jody received her Pharm.D. from the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy in 2003.  She completed her Pharmacy Practice Residency at the Medical College of Georgia Health System in 2004 and then joined the MCG (now Georgia Regents) pharmacy staff as a Neuroscience Pharmacy Specialist.  She has an appointment to the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy as a Clinical Assistant Professor.  At the 2004 ACCP Annual Meeting she presented, “Cliff Notes: How Mentoring Works” with Dr. Susan Fagan.  She has been published in The Annals of Pharmacotherapy (2003), Hospital Pharmacy (2006), and Stroke (2012).  Her areas of clinical interest are: blood pressure and hemostatic therapies for the management of intracerebral hemorrhage patients and secondary stroke prevention strategies.  Jody is an active member of ACCP, Georgia Society of Health System Pharmacists, and ASHP.  She has participated in medical mission trips to Ecuador.
