Infectious Diseases and Antimicrobial Stewardship
Sonal Patel, Pharm.D.
Sonal Patel received her B.Sc in biology at the York University in Toronto, Canada, and a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. She completed her PGY1 residency at the Detroit Medical Center and her PGY2 in infectious diseases at the Henry Ford Hospital. Sonal joined the Georgia Regents Health Pharmacy Department in fall 2013 as the antimicrobial stewardship pharmacist, rounds with the Infectious Disease Consult Service and serves as the Secretary of the Antimicrobial Subcommittee of the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee.

Chris M. Bland, Pharm.D., BCPS
Chris is the full-time clinical pharmacist for the intensive care unit at Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Augusta, GA and serves as a preceptor for our PGY2 Critical Care Pharmacy Residency in Critical Care/Infectious Disease. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of South Carolina in May of 2000 and was board certified in Pharmacotherapy in 2003. While dedicated to the ICU, Dr. Bland works closely with the Department of Infectious Diseases on complicated cases as well as overall stewardship issues within the medical center. Chris also is the clinical pharmacy coordinator for the inpatient clinical pharmacy staff. He provides education to internal medicine, family medicine, general surgery, and orthopedic surgery residents and staff including precepting a 2-week pharmacotherapy elective for 2nd year internal medicine residents.
He has published recently in the Annals of Pharmacotherapy, Pharmacotherapy, The International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents and the Journal of Intensive Care Medicine. Chris also has presented at several national meetings including the Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists (SIDP) and American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) annual meetings. He also provides live NAPLEX review courses for pharmacy schools nationally on many clinical topics including infectious diseases. He recently received the 2012 Ralph D. Arnold Army Pharmacy Research Award for work related to implementation of a blood culture notification program to enhance antimicrobial stewardship. He also received the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy Preceptor of the year award in 2005-06 and provides invited lectures on infectious diseases topics for the P3 pharmacy students at the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy and South Carolina College of Pharmacy as an adjunct faculty member.
