Geriatrics and Nursing Home Consulting Pharmacy

Patricia Knowles, R.Ph.

Pat is a graduate of the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy and involved in state and national efforts for emergency preparedness, including as a Team Leader on the hospital Decontamination Team, pharmacy representative on the Georgia Regents Medical Center (GRMC) Hospital Emergency Management Committee, Medical Reserve Corp volunteer for the East Central Georgia Health District, and a Certified Trainer for Smallpox Vaccine Administration and Clinic Operation.  She has experience in a variety of inpatient practice settings throughout GRMC, contract and “on call” in other facilities (military hospital, rehabilitation hospital and critical access/rural hospital).  Her current position is providing consultant services at Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home where she also precepts the Geriatric Rotation for APPE 4th year Pharmacy students and a Geriatric Longitudinal Rotation for PGY1 residents. Pat is Co-Chair of the Public Relations Committee for the Georgia Society of Health-System Pharmacists (GSHP).  She is a recent past President of GSHP and has served as a two-term Secretary, District Director, Ad-Hoc Committee Chair, and Board Member for the Society.  In 2003, she was recognized by GSHP with the Out-Standing District Director Award, in 2005 with the Community Service Award and in 2007 as their Pharmacy Practitioner of the Year.  Pat is serving on the ASHP Committee on Nominations for a third term and was elected to serve on the Executive Committee as Director-at-Large for the ASHP Section for Inpatient Care Practitioners 2005-2008.  She has served as a Georgia delegate for the ASHP House of Delegates for many years.  Pat is also an active UGA College of Pharmacy alumni serving as Regional Vice-President on the Alumni Council and participating in White Coat Day and Pinning ceremonies. In October 2013, Pat was honored with recognition as the GSHP Pharmacist of the Year.

Kevin Corbin, R.Ph.

Kevin received his B.S. in Pharmacy from Wayne State University in 1986 and has worked in a variety of institutional pharmacy practice settings, including as a night pharmacist in Evanston Hospital (Illinois), and within MCG Health as the Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Supervisor (10 years), OR Pharmacy Supervisor (2 years) and lead pharmacist in the Main Pharmacy operations area before becoming the consultant pharmacist for our nursing home operations in summer 2006.  From 2010 to early 2015 he served as a Pharmacy Manager, responsible for pharmacy operations in the hospital,  the Clinic Pharmacy (which supports the Medical Office Building), and for services provided to the Georgia War Veteran’s Nursing Home.  In spring 2015, Kevin will again begin serving as a consultant pharmacist for Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home full time.  Kevin has served as both the President and Vice President of the Augusta Area Pharmaceutical Association, and taught a patient Diabetes Education class at the MCG Senior Health Center for two years.  He is a member of the Georgia Society of Health System Pharmacists.  He is a Preceptor for the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy geriatrics rotation for Pharm.D. students at the nursing home and has also offered an Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) in pharmacy management and operations.
